Bumi Nila

2025

mixed media on canvas

150x100 cm

This work is constructed using layered acrylic, mineral pigments, and volcanic sand from Bali, Indonesia. The title draws from Indonesian language: bumi meaning earth and nila meaning deep blue, reflecting the relationship between volcanic sand and layered blue tones.

The surface is built up and partially eroded, allowing areas of raw texture to remain visible alongside softer, veiled passages of blue. The blue tones reference water and depth, balancing the density and weight of the volcanic material.

The composition is intentionally restrained, with a focus on material contrast, surface variation, and longevity.
