Where We Part
2026
mixed media on canvas
138x129 cm
This piece took months to resolve. I completed it on the day my parents left after a rare visit, allowing the emotions of goodbye to guide the final layers. The two forms suggest connection and separation - an ode to borderless love. Sand, coffee grounds, and volcanic sand anchor the work to Bali.
Dalam
2026
mixed media on canvas
80x120 cm
“Dalam” means “deep” in Indonesian. This piece was created alongside Antara, shaped by the same process of letting go of thoughts, ideas, and plans. I allowed intuition to lead entirely, resulting in raw, unplanned strokes. The deep blues reflect the state I enter when I paint: quiet, internal, and far below the surface. This work is a personal reminder of the importance of releasing control, something that doesn’t come naturally to me but continues to guide my practice.
Antara
2026
mixed media on canvas
80x120 cm
This piece emerged from a deep state of play. It began with defined shapes and borders, but they didn’t feel right, so I reworked it completely. I allowed intuition to guide each stroke, colour, and placement without a fixed plan. The process felt almost meditative, somewhere between the present moment and my inner world - an experience that ultimately gave the work its name, Antara, meaning “in between” in Indonesian.
