“Sanja” is a Balinese word connected to the hues and quiet mood of dusk. It differs from senja, the Indonesian term for twilight. I chose Sanja for its softer, more intuitive feeling; something that closely reflects my own experience while creating this piece.
This work is inspired by the vivid orange, red, and pink sunsets that Bali is known for. I reworked the piece several times, adding layers, texture, and colour until it gradually settled into an abstract expression of those bright evening skies. Creating it required letting go of plans and expectations. Following intuition instead of thought became an important part of the process and shaped the final work.
