This piece is very personal to me.

I began by building textured layers with volcanic sand, and once it was finished, I noticed the shapes echoed the outline of Bali. Having spent many years here in the past, the island has long held a deep place in my heart.

Realising that my connection to Bali had surfaced unconsciously in the composition was a powerful moment - and what ultimately gave the piece its title, Pulang (“returning home”).
